Good Things Come to Those Who Wait
After a very long wait, we received and installed the walnut countertop for the laundry/mudroom. It’s an impressive fish, at 12 feet long, 25 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches thick.
Thanks to Tisha for help carrying and cutting this glorious monster. We squared off the end, cut the countertop length & and cabinet end wrap. The leftovers yielded a pleasingly long cheese board paired with an ample cutting board from the sink cutout area. (Perpetual projects!)
The kind folks at WoodCraft, identified the best sealer for a wet area. It is not possible to overstate the miraculous transformation the sealer performed. The raw walnut instantly shifted from a dusty purplish cast, to rich, deep, chocolate and coffee tones embellished by beautiful wood grain. A subsequent treatment of 0000 steel wool and more sealer, provided a smooth but not-too-shiny finish.
A simple white, deep sink and faucet complete the basics. There are some other items to go before this room is complete, but we are thankful and delighted to have a functional (and lovely) space to work.
I have to say, it was well worth the wait!
